Osborne County Memorial Hospital (OCMH) is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a $38,665.44 grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) to enhance the Pathway to Wellness Walking Path with a new rubberized track surface. This generous funding will improve the walking path’s safety and accessibility, making it an even better resource for community members looking to stay active and prioritize their health.

The KDHE recently announced the recipients of its waste tire product grants, which are awarded annually to local municipalities and public and private schools (K-12) across the state. These grants, which totaled $460,973.24, support projects that incorporate recycled tire products, such as playground surfacing and picnic tables. The funding comes from the tire excise tax, a $0.25 per vehicle tire fee, aimed at promoting sustainability while improving community spaces.
The Pathway to Wellness Walking Path has already become a favorite spot for individuals and families to enjoy the benefits of walking, and this upgrade will provide a softer, more cushioned surface, reducing impact on joints and making it more comfortable for all users. Whether you're an avid walker, recovering from an injury, or simply looking for a safe and accessible place to exercise, this improvement will make a difference.
At OCMH, we are committed to promoting health and wellness in our community, and this project aligns perfectly with our mission. We extend our gratitude to KDHE for recognizing the importance of this initiative and supporting our efforts to provide a high-quality, inclusive space for movement and wellness.
Stay tuned for updates on the project timeline. We look forward to seeing even more community members enjoying the upgraded Pathway to Wellness Walking Path!
